1.  Special Call Signs in Honor of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee:
    Available from May 15 to July 14, 2022

In 2022, Canada is celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth II, marking her 70th anniversary on the Throne.
She is Canada’s longest reigning Sovereign and the first to celebrate
a platinum jubilee.
Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada has approved
the use of a special prefix from May 15 to July 14. These dates
correspond to the early summer busy operating season and will be
available to all Canadian Amateurs who wish to use the special call signs.
To use the special call sign, substitute the prefix normally assigned to
your province or territory by the special prefix shown in the table.
For example, VE3 becomes VX3, VA3 becomes VG3, and so on.

2.   RAC Event: Weather Spotter Workshop “Beyond CanWarn”

Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC), the national association for Amateur Radio
in Canada, is pleased to present a special event for Amateurs and non-Amateurs:
Weather Spotter Workshop “Beyond CanWarn”.
Special Guest: Geoff Coulson, Warning Preparedness Meteorologist
Hosted By: Jason Tremblay, VE3JXT, RAC Community Services Officer
In this online Zoom event, Geoff Coulson, will discuss topics including the basics
of thunderstorm formation, the types of damage severe thunderstorms can produce
and what to look for in the sky. Winter severe weather will be touched on as well.
The training also provides ways that storm reports can be provided to Environment
and Climate Change Canada and several safety tips to keep storm spotters safe.

4.  Mobile App Available to Navigate 2022 Dayton Hamvention

Dayton Hamvention® is offering a free mobile app for smartphones and tablets
to help attendees navigate the large-scale event, which runs May 20 – 22 at the
Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in Xenia, Ohio.

The free Events app is now available and includes Hamvention’s full program,
so attendees can browse and schedule forums, find affiliated events, and preview
the extensive list of exhibitors. During the event, attendees can use other app
features to follow the hourly prize drawings populated by the Dayton Hamvention
Prize Committee, and browse building and site maps.

Attendees are also encouraged to tap on the MyProfile icon in the app to add
their name and call sign, email address, and any additional information they would
like to share with other Hamvention guests. Additionally, the MyBadge icon displays
a QR code of your event badge that can be scanned by another attendee or exhibitor
using the Scan Badge icon – instantly connecting shared contact information with other
hams at the event.

The app is available for Apple and Android smart devices, or access the web browser
version which is optimized for nearly any browser or other type of mobile device.
